Radhika Ramanujan will perform a bharatanatyam recital on June 17, 6 pm as part of the ‘Dr M D Partha­sarathy and Smt Susheela Parthasarathy Endowment Programme’ at the The Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi. 


Natyantharanga is presenting the bharatanatyam ‘rangapravesha’ of Apoorva R on June 10 at 10.30 am. The programme will be held at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road, opposite Ravindra Kalakshetra.

First steps 

The bharatanatyam ‘rangapravesha’ of Sowmya Shree will be held on June 10, 6.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.


Dashanubavam, a dance recital by Kavya Shanmugham, will be held on June 9, 5.30 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.  

‘Raag Sandhya’

Varsha Ritu Raag Sandhya, an evening of dance and music based on compositions and ragas, will be held at The Tamarind Tree, off Kanakapura Road on June 16, 7 pm

On the occasion, there will be a  bharatanatyam recital by Sathyanarayana Raju, kathak by the Nadam ensemble, vocal recital by Vaishali Srinivas and flute by Pandit Pravin Godkhindi.

Comedy time 

A comic hip-hop show, ‘Zak and Angelo’, will be held at the Alliance Française on June 8, 7 pm. ‘Zak and Angelo’ reminds one of the big burlesque duo of the ‘Grande époque’. One is lively, dynamic, and impatient. The other is more of a dreamer – calm, good-looking, and romantic. Both, little by little, let themselves get into the personality of the other, resulting in comic and ironic situations. All in all, a compelling farce narrated through rhythmic dancing, stylised movement, and mime.

‘Mango Party’

The ‘Mango Party’ will be held on June 10, 3 pm to 6 pm at Ranga Shankara. The party is open to all. Each one should bring one kilo of any variety of mango.     

Jewellery show

‘Asia Jewels Fair 2012’, the jewellery exhibition, will be held at The Lalit Ashok Hotel  from June 8 to 10. On display will be products from over 50 leading brands of Bangalore as well as other parts of India creating a platform for all jewels requisites under one roof. 

Feast your eyes with an array of international jewellery designs from across India. 

‘Urban Mela’

The ‘Indo-German Urban Mela’ will be held from June 22 to July 1 at Palace Grounds. It will host 16 specially designed pavilions that will come to life with interactive presentations exploring how to improve life within cities. The mela is part of the ‘Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities’, which celebrates 60 years of Indo-German diplomatic ties. An exclusive concept at the ‘Urban Mela’ is the ‘Youth University’, which is designed for ambitious talented youngsters.

Ashtar, an exhibition of saris in uppada, chanderi and chikkankari; suitpieces that are ready to wear and unstitched material, tunics, dresses, shirts and tops, dupattas and stoles will be held on June 8 and 9 at Vermilion House, 3/12 Cleveland Road Cross, Fraser Town. 

These are created by craftsman specialised in each field. Each piece is made using techniques such as Ajrakh, Bandini, Chikankari, Phulkari and Mithila on finest silks, cottons and other hand-woven fabrics. For details, call 41225830.

Film screening

As part of the film screening on heritage sites of the world, the screening of ‘Kakadu National Park and Arnhem Land — Australia’ will be held at NGMA on June 16, 11 am.


Bright strokes

Right Lines Art Gallery, in collaboration with Gallery Five Forty Five, is presenting an exhibition of paintings by Francis Desousa called ‘Complex  Machinery...Confused Minds’ from June 10 to 23 at Gallery Five Forty Five, 545, 6th Main, 4th Cross, Indiranagar. The timing is 11 am to 6.30 pm. 

Oil on canvas 

Spiritual artist Tarun Cherian is presenting ‘A Piece of Heaven’, an art exhibition, principally of oil on canvas, at Alliance Francaise.It will be on display till June 10. ‘A Piece of Heaven’ is Tarun’s sixth solo art show and unveils spiritual 


Indian Ensemble will present ‘Treadmill’, a play in Hindi, written by Sandeep Shikhar, on June 7, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. It is directed by Abhishek Majumdar. The cast includes Sandeep Shikhar, Virginia Rodrigues, Ashwini Kumar Chakre. ‘Treadmill’ is a journey of exploring personal memories of people in the towns of India. ‘Sridevi Mahathme’

Sanchari Theatre is presenting the play Sridevi Mahathme (a short story of Vasudhendra) on June 9, 7 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. For details, call 8884345569.

Lights on

The Rogue Theater, Tucson, Arizona will present the play ‘Shipwrecked!’ at Jagriti, Whitefield till June 17. Three actors will be playing 30 odd characters and the play will  feature Patty Gallagher, Joseph McGrath and David Morden. It is directed by Cynthia Meier. The Bangalore School of Speech and Drama will be staging ‘Perspectives’, which is a candid look on life, on June 10, 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm. It is written and directed by the young playwright, Hasnain Shaikh. It will be staged at the Alliance Francaise.

Memorial fest

Bengaluru Lalitha Kala Parishat and Ramasudha Charitable Trust will present ‘Dr H Narasimhaiah Memorial Cultural Festival’ till June 10 at Dr H N Kalakshetra, Jayanagar. On June 7, listen to a veena recital by Suma Sudhindra accompanied by N N Ganesh Kumar (violin), K U Jayachandra Rao (mridangam) and Phanindra Bhaskar (morching). There will be a Sugama Sangeeta recital by Shankar Shanbhag, Suresh Kolli (harmonium), Ganesh Vaidya (tabla) and Ashish Nayak (effects) on June 8. On June 9, there will be a vocal recital by Nagamani Srinath with N N Ganesh Kumar (violin), Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma (mridangam) and Narayana Murthy (ghatam). On June 10, a bharatanatyam recital will be presented by Chitra Chandrashekhar Dasharathi.

Carnatic concert

Ranjani Fine Arts is holding a Carnatic music concert of ‘vidushi’ Sumitra Nitin at Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse on June 9, 5 pm. Sumitra Nitin will present a vocal recital on the occasion. Vittal Rangan will be on violin and Sudarshan Chakravarthi will be on mridangam.

‘Gamma Rays...’ 

Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music will present ‘Gamma Rays Fer Bell’ live, a Bebop and contemporary jazz performance at Bflat, Indiranagar on June 9, 8.30 pm. The band comprises heavy weights from France, Israel, South America and Texas; each bringing in their expertise and talent on a common stage. Their influences range from authentic bebop, classical, even Carnatic, to Persian, gospel and contemporary jazz. It will feature Raphaelle Brochet (vocals), Ofer Ganor (guitar), Gabriel Guerrero (piano), Marcos Varela (Bass) and Jovol ‘Bam Bam’ Bell (drums).

Violin duet

On June 8, 6 pm, as part of the ‘Sri B V Narayana Reddy Memorial Endowment Programme’, a violin duet by Tejas and Pranav Manjunath, a disciple of S Yashasvi, will be held at the Indian Institute of World Culture, Basavanagudi.

Vocal delight

Music Circle,Chandra Layout is organising a Carnatic vocal music concert by  Vishnudev Namboodiri, a disciple of P S Narayanaswami, on June 10, 6.15 pm at No. 12, Basaveshwara HBCS, 7th Cross, 2nd Main, Chandra Layout. He will be accompanied by Apoorva Muralikrishna on violin and L Subramaniam on mridangam.

Live act

‘Caesars Palace’ will present a dose of disco, funk and alternative music live on June 9 at CounterCulture. The band consists of seasoned musicians that include Anurag Shanker (‘Slow Down Clown’), Jason Zachariah (‘Allegro Fudge’), Kishan Balaji (‘Galeej Gurus’), Kenneth Wilson (‘MoonArra’, ‘Nation Station’) and Narayanan Nambudripad.

Devotional tunes

Nadaranjani Sangeetha Sabha, Basaveshwaranagar is organising a devotional concert by Pandit Shankar Shanbhag at Dharini Mahila Sangha Premises, behind post office, Basaveshwaranagar on June 9, 5.30 pm. He will be accompanied by Gurumurthy Vaidya (tabla), Gurumurthy (harmonium) and  Ashish Nayak (tabla).
